Poetry: Living

“Living” -J. Adam Snyder

I don’t want to exist, I want to live.

I don’t want to see the sun, I want to feel its rays.
I don’t want to get wet, I want to be caressed by the rain.
I don’t want to sleep, I want to dream.
I don’t want to kiss, I want to lock passionate lips.

I don’t want to hear sounds, I want to hear music.
I don’t want to have sex, I want to make poetry with our bodies.
I don’t want religion, I want to have faith.
I don’t want to see nature, I want to be beguiled by its majesty.

I don’t want to want to be attracted, I want to be enchanted.
I don’t want to cry, I want to bleed my heart out.
I don’t want to be content, I want my desire to blaze forever.
I don’t want to live by the rules, I want to break the rules.

I don’t want feel the wind, I want to dance with it.
I don’t want to eat, I want to taste.
I don’t want to be with you, I want to hold you.
I don’t want to know, I want to wonder.

I don’t want a job, I want a career.
I don’t want a relationship, I want a romance.
I don’t want to touch, I want to feel.
I don’t want to breathe, I want to draw life into my soul.

We all die, but only some of us are truly alive.
